A fast start on golf’s biggest stages has turned potential into production
Tiger Woods is the greatest of all time in golf, but who could be coming for that title? His name is Ludvig Åberg, a 26-year-old from Sweden.
Åberg played college golf at Texas Tech University, where he became one of the most decorated amateurs in the school’s history. Åberg was ranked No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking for a total of 29 weeks. He also won eight career individual tournaments at TTU. (which is a record) He finished No. 1 on the PGA Tour University Rankings, which earned him a tour card automatically. Åberg turned professional in 2023 and has won five tournaments since, two PGA Tour wins and one European win.
One of his biggest victories on the tour came at the 2025 Genesis Invitational, where he carded a final-round 66 to win by one stroke. He also made a splash at the 2024 Masters Tournament, finishing second in his first major.
Åberg is known as an elite ball-striker, combining power with great contact on every swing. He averages 300+ yards per drive, and it’s straight as an arrow all the time. While Åberg’s driving and ball-striking ranks among the tour’s best, his short game has been more average statistically, sitting closer to the middle of the field in strokes gained around the green. This just shows that he is already good… and he’s not even complete yet.
Now, saying he is the next Tiger would sound crazy to a lot of people, but he is on a good pace. Woods has won 15 majors and 81 total tournaments. It’s also way too early to be comparing careers; he doesn’t need to be the next tiger – he can be the first Åberg.
To even start comparing him to anyone of that nature, he needs major wins and just total dominance.
