The U.S. hockey team defeated Canada today in an overtime classic.

On this date, forty-six years ago, the USA hockey team won an Olympic gold medal. Today, they did it again. Jack Hughes scored the overtime 3 on 3 golden goal to solidify the 2-1 victory for the U.S.

Hughes had this to say after the game, “This is all about our country. I love the USA, I love our teammates. … I’m so proud to be American today.”

Don’t forget about 32-year-old Connor Hellebuyck, who saved 41 shots.

Hellebuyck had lots of crazy moments, but the best came in the third period, where he whipped his paddle out to keep Devon Toews from sliding a put-back into a wide-open net, then later in the second, he shut the door on Connor McDavid during a breakaway.

After Hughes crazy winning goal, this is what Charlie McAvoy said.

“I can’t wait to see the footage of what happened after we scored, because it was a complete blackout.” “Who I was hugging, where I was going … I don’t know what happened. It was just euphoria. I can’t even explain what I was feeling, just pure joy.”

The U.S. team had not beaten Canada since the 1996 World Cup of Hockey.

Boldy said this after the win, “He was our best player by a mile (Hellebuyck). He’s an absolute stud. He wants to be in those moments. He wants to make the saves. And he did just that, so he was definitely our MVP.”

The 2026 USA hockey team can now proudly claim to be the best hockey team in the world.
